Bookstore

The Cowichan Campus Bookstore, which is open to the public, is located near the main entrance. The Bookstore carries text books required for courses offered at the Campus, as well as school supplies, gifts, clothing, and a wide-range of art supplies.

Bookstore hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.  For more information on the services available, please call 250-746-3516.

Computer Labs for Student Use

There are five computer labs on Campus: Lab 200, Lab 203, Lab 204, Lab 207, and the mini-lab in the Library. These computer labs are all in Building 602. Lab hours are posted on the doors and on the bulletin board at the entrance to Building 602. The mini-lab is open during Library hours. Computer lab hours are also posted weekly at cc.viu.ca/ce/labtime.htm.

Please note: No food or drinks are allowed in the computer labs, and software piracy will not be tolerated.

Emergency Phone System

The Campus is outfitted with an elevator phone and exterior yellow emergency phones that connect directly to emergency services at the push of a button. Police, fire department, first aid, or ambulance services will be dispatched immediately, as deemed appropriate by the security company. You are strongly urged to familiarize yourself with the location and usage of the emergency phones.

First Aid

In the event of a medical emergency, a qualified first aid attendant is available. For first aid on Campus, please alert a staff member or call local 6600 from any Campus phone.

Food Services

A variety of foods is available at the Cowichan Campus Cafeteria. You can get sandwiches, coffee, soups, muffins, salads, and lunch-time specials.  If you have special dietary or catering needs, please discuss these with the Cafeteria staff who will do their best to accommodate you. Pay phones, microwave, and vending machines are located in the Cafeteria.

Library

The Library at the Cowichan Campus houses a growing collection of 9,000 volumes. The Library also provides access for students, faculty, and the general public to the 160,000 volumes, 5,300 audio-visual items, and 1,400 periodical titles housed in the Library at the Nanaimo campus. An online computer catalogue, a variety of online periodical indexes, and a daily delivery system between Nanaimo and Duncan provide convenient access to all the resources of the Library at Vancouver Island University.

Residents of the Cowichan region, who are not students, are eligible to apply for a Vancouver Island University library card for an annual fee of $25. For those interested in local history, the Cowichan Leader is available for browsing on microfilm. Library hours of operation:

  • September – April: Study Hall: Mon. to Fri., 8 am – 9 am; Full Service: Mon. to Thurs., 9 am – 9 pm; Fri., 9 am – 4 pm; Sat., 12 noon – 4 pm.
  • May – June: Mon. to Fri., 9 am – 4 pm.

The Library is closed in July and August, as well as on statutory holidays; variation in hours will be posted.

Lost and Found

Items are turned in at Reception Services. They are kept for up to two months and are then given to the Vancouver Island University Students’ Union.

Photocopy Machines

A photocopy machine is available for student use in the Library on Campus. Please inquire at the Library for current copy charges.
