Refrigeration Air-Conditioning Mechanic

This 40 week program is designed to train you for a career in the home heating, ventilating, and air conditioning trades through classroom instruction, hands-on practical assignments supplemented with computer-based instruction. The program provides a solid foundation in the fundamentals of installing, servicing, and troubleshooting all aspects of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning/refrigeration (HVAC/R) equipment, as well as customer relations. Upon successful completion of the program, you will receive a Vancouver Island University completion certificate,  CFC handling certificate from Environment Canada and the Province of BC. Students take additional training to receive a Refrigeration Mechanic Year 2 following the RACM program. Please ask about this option. Graduates of the program have found employment in the gas and oil heating trades, the air-conditioning service trade, as well as building maintenance.

Program admission requirements include Grade 12 or equivalent, successful completion of an assessment at which time you will complete your Personal Profile. Being physically fit with good hand/eye coordination is  recommended. 

The program starts February 2017 and applications are accepted anytime.
